| | | 17) | Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: |
18) | I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. |
19) | As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. |
| 1) | My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. |
2) | For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; |
3) | And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: |
4) | Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? |
5) | Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? |
6) | But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? |
7) | Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? |
8) | If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: |
9) | But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. |
| 1) | If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. |
2) | Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. |
3) | For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. |
4) | When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. |
| 4) | By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life. |
| 19) | Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: |
20) | But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: |
21) | For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. |
